Fall 2013 Lennox Health Fair

Dear Faculty, Students, and Friends,

It’s that time again. The Lennox Health Fair will be held soon and it doesn’t take much to give back to the Lennox community in a meaningful way! Twice each year, UCLA and CDU’s Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) Chapters hosts the Lennox Health Fair to provide a wide variety of medical services to those with little or no access to health care, and we need your help to volunteer on Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 8:30am-2:30pm. Last year, with all of your help, we assisted more than 130 uninsured and low-income adults and children who might not otherwise have seen a physician. Your participation will help us to continue providing this valuable service for this community.

This community is a Spanish Speaking population and translators are always needed. We are also in need of volunteers to act as Patient Advocates. These individuals ensure our patients get the most from our health fair and connect them with key services throughout the health fair. There are other roles we need volunteers in and it is important that since you will most likely have patient interaction that you get HIPPA Certified. An email with a link to a training module will be sent the week before the health fair along with more details on the logistics.

It is the perfect time to practice those clinical skills and remind yourself of some of the reasons you decided to go to medical school in the first place. MS1s and MS2s will be assigned to assist with patient intake, take blood pressure and BMI, assist “Happy Feet” with patient care, assist in teaching CPR techniques, disseminate health education to the individuals attending the fair and much more! If you need a ride to the fair, carpools will be coordinated and that information will be distributed a few days before the health fair in order to allow you all enough time to contact the people you are carpooling with, as I know this was a concern for the last fair.
