The UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute in Westwood provides an interdisciplinary base for research, education, and medical services related to diseases and conditions of the eye.  Originally established in 1966, the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute is the fulfillment of an ambitious plan by ophthalmologist, businessman, and philanthropist Jules Stein, MD, and Bradley R. Straatsma, MD, JD, the founding director of the Jules Stein Eye Institute and founding Chairman of the UCLA Department of Ophthalmology. Their bold vision for preventing blindness is based on the convergence of vision scientists and clinician-scientists to develop a base of research activity that can be translated to the clinic.
