Jennifer Menjivar, a San Franciscan, was the first in her family to go to college. She graduated with honors in 2010 from San Francisco State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology with a concentration in physiology and a minor in chemistry. Jennifer began volunteering in her community at the San Francisco General Hospital’s Pediatric Asthma Allergy Clinic, where she worked closely with Latino families by translating for over 2 years. She continued to work with underserved communities through the WOMAN Inc’s Latina Program, which focused on helping undocumented survivors of domestic violence work towards obtaining visas and advocating for their rights. Her community work throughout the city is what led her to apply to PRIME in hopes of broadening her vision of working with the underserved. Most recently, Jennifer has become involved in her new community of Los Angeles by volunteering at and helping coordinate Lennox Health fairs, and working alongside day laborers through PRIME-LA’s project “Salud y Trabajo.”
