Maxine Velázquez was born and raised in the greater Los Angeles. She comes from a large, close-knit, Mexican family. She completed her undergraduate degree in nutritional science at UC Berkeley in 2010. While at UC Berkeley, she was involved in DULCE, a diabetes awareness organization. Being a student leader in DULCE cultivated her interest in medicine. She gained a better understanding of the socioeconomic factors that impacted how her family members with diabetes accessed healthcare. Maxine was part of the following pipeline programs and is always eager to share what she learned on her path to medicine: Biology Scholars Program, Health Career Connection, & UC Davis Postbaccalaureate Program. When she is not in the books or involved with LMSA you can find her cooking up a storm in her kitchen, attempting to hike a local trail, catching a movie in the park or enjoying a hot cup of coffee.
